On the morning of the Dec 16th, the hostess Lv Sairong was picking fresh and ripe strawberries in the greenhouse with a bamboo basket in Qianduoduo Strawberry Farm in Wangcun Village, Shangtian Street, Fenghua.
Farmers in Shangtian—the "hometown of strawberries in China" began to harvest strawberries this winter. Lv Sainong said that this year, she has planted 7 greenhouses, about 5 mu of strawberries, of which 4 are red strawberries and 3 are white strawberries. "This kind of red strawberry is called 'Xinyan', which is a new variety developed by the Ningbo Academy of Agricultural Sciences this year. It tastes sweeter and has sufficient aroma. The retail price is 120 yuan per kilogram, which is much higher than the conventional 'Hongjia' strawberry.".
Wang Handi and Lv Sainong have been planting strawberries for more than 10 years. In recent years, they have been devoting themselves to pursue high-quality, introducing and testing several variety of strawberries, and improving management technology.
"Now the first batch of strawberries has just come into the market, and the output is very few. Wang Handi said that now white strawberries are picked sporadically, and the retail price is up to more than 300 yuan per kg, but many old customers have placed orders".
Shangtian has more than 3000 mu of strawberries in greenhouses. It has always been famous for producing "Zhangji" varieties of cream strawberries, which are the most important source of income for local farmers.
The next continuous sunny and cold weather will make strawberries grow better and more delicious. It is reported that in about 7 days, Shangtian strawberries will be sold in batches in various supermarkets and fruit stores, and the price will also fall slightly.
